Holiday Inn & Staybridge Suites, Dublin Airport

Dublin

Following on from ICA’s success at Bath Road, Heathrow, the practice was appointed by a repeat client to design a dual brand hotel in close proximity to Dublin Airport. The 427 bedroom combined Holiday Inn & Staybridge Suites hotel looks to integrate two distinct brands into one building by creating individual public areas while sharing back of house facilities to boost operational economy.

The hotel included extensive public areas, as well as conference facilities, meeting rooms and leisure facilities for both brands. A separate coffee outlet is also proposed to separate the two brands and compliment the public areas by creating an active ground floor.

The design approach on the project took inspiration from the dual brands and the final scheme involved two separate accommodation blocks connected by a double storey colonnade. The primary public areas are contained within the ground floor of the colonnade with several external areas and terraces creating a link to the landscaping.

The articulation of façade focuses on singularity and simplicity of the concept with repetition of fenestration, clarity of grid and balance of mass, therefore making the overall impact is legible, crisp and coherent. The team also worked with local planners to propose a palette of high quality materials which complimented and embedded the design concept within the proposals.
