East Kilbride FC Stadium

East Kilbride

East Kilbride Community Trust have commissioned ICA to undertake the design for a new community stadium on a brown field site on the edge of East Kilbride. The Community Stadium is a multi-phase project with the intention of providing for the growing needs of its successful local football club East Kilbride FC and creating a nexus for the local community supporting other sporting, social and business functions.

The project will consist of seating for up to 4000 spectators, team facilities, concessions, office and media accommodation, gym facilities and a community hub space with function suite. The project will be split into several phases, with the main stand (with seating for up to 2500 spectators) and ancillary spaces being the first. Two flanking spectator stands will follow on in subsequent phases.

The main stand takes a trapezoidal form clad in Prodema treated timber panels. The Stand naturally turns it back to the approach, facing the pitch to the south east and enjoying views across the surrounding countryside. The solid canopy floats above, extending out to shelter the seating.

The Hub is an integral part of the main stand, but distinctly clad in dark grey with vertical timber fins to echo the cladding of the main stand. The entrance is marked by a box frame canopy below the fins. The focus of this area is the multipurpose community function suite, which can accommodate a range of functions though its flexible layout.
